Women Veterans

Overview

If you are a woman Veteran facing mental health challenges, you are not alone.

Many women Veterans experience trauma, depression, anxiety, eating disorders and/or reproductive mental health conditions. Some also face medical and social issues that affect their relationships and quality of life.

VA understands that women Veterans may have unique experiences and treatment needs. VA mental health clinicians work to ensure that all women Veterans have access to high-quality gender-sensitive treatment.

Women Veterans Describe Sources of Support

Women Veterans discuss the support they found after their military service to improve their lives. To hear more stories from women Veterans, visit Make the Connection.

Veteran Resources

Every VA facility has mental health experts — psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, nurses and peer specialists — who specialize in care for women Veterans. These experts know how to support women Veterans’ mental health and address treatment needs, including those related to reproductive mental health. Contact your Women Veterans Program Manager to learn more about women Veterans’ mental health programs or to find a clinician at your local VA facility.
