About VA Mental Health

Data Drives VA Forward

VA is committed to advancing health research and providing care that meets the needs of our nation’s Veterans — and data is critical to support personalized treatment efforts as well as suicide and overdose prevention. VA’s analysis of Veteran suicide and overdose data, which is presented to the public annually, helps VA better serve Veterans and their loved ones.

Veteran Suicide Data and Reporting

Using national death certificate data, VA conducts an in-depth analysis of Veteran suicide rates each year. Findings are made available to the public in an annual report.

Interagency Task Force on Military and Veterans Mental Health (ITF)

The Interagency Task Force on Military and Veterans Mental Health (ITF) advances and promotes collaboration among VA, U.S. Department of Defense, and U.S. Department of Health and Human Services to address mental health programs and policies critical to Veterans, active-duty Service members and their families. The ITF publishes reports that summarize progress on interagency activities related to suicide prevention, enhancing access to mental health care, building partnerships between VA and community providers, increasing the number of VA mental health providers serving Veterans and promoting mental health research, and the development of more effective treatment methodologies.
